This weekend, I’m away on a group holiday, meant for single people between age 25-40. That’s a first for me, but it’s pretty nice! It’s easy to relate to most people, and everyone’s relaxed and kind.
Another first was mountain biking. I had some trouble choosing between them, as it’d be nicer to talk to people while walking, where mountain biking is more of a solitary thing, with only few possibilities to chat along the way.
I anticipated mountain biking would be a bit scary, with height differences, high speeds and tight corners. While that might be true for some courses, this was pretty tame – it wasn’t scary at all, and actually pretty fun!
We followed a guide, and had stops along the way to gather the people who fell behind. Making sure to keep more toward the front end of the group meant I could keep up the pace, and make use of the stops to rest. The people in the back had much less opportunity to rest and had to push the brakes more often.
With heavy downpours at night, most of the course was quite wet. Puddles and mud were all over, and so we arrived at the finish with wet and muddy clothes. I’m glad I carried a fresh set of clothing and a towel in my backpack along the way. Gotta be prepared 😉
I hadn’t prepared an activity for the afternoon. Some of the group is going stand-up paddle boarding, but after an active morning I wasn’t feeling much like it. Another part of the group went for an escape room, which was booked full quite quickly. And so… I’m still looking for something to do 😌 Guess I had to show more initiative!
Tomorrow there’ll be canoeing and golfing, though I might opt to skip golf and go padel instead. To be continued.
I rarely take time off. It’s a nice change of pace for sure, and I probably should give myself more slack every once in a while. It’s nice to relax after working back to back so much.
